First, some context: Last Sunday I noticed my labia felt kind of sore and a little swollen. I figured I had just inadvertently irritated myself somehow and thought nothing of it. But then on Monday, the discomfort turned into burning and itching and after some googling, I feared I had my very first yeast infection. I called my doc and made an appointment for Wednesday. I suffered through more itching and burning on Tuesday along with an odorless white discharge...it was uncomfortable, yes, but not totally unbearable, so I held off on buying any creams or over the counter yeast infection treatments. My reasoning was that since this was my first yeast infection & the symptoms cropped up completely out of the blue, I wanted to get a confirmed diagnosis from a doctor before doing anything. I didn't want to unknowingly exacerbate the situation.

So, Wednesday comes along and my doctor does a urine test. He said that there were red blood cells (because I was due to get my period in a few days), white blood cells, and some bacteria in my urine. He said he wasn't sure if I also had a urinary tract infection, so he prescribed an antibiotic called Levaquin, 500mg, for a 3 day course and generic Fluconazole, 150mg, for my yeast infection. He didn't even mention the possible drug interactions, but luckily, I had done my own research beforehand. I had read that anitbiotics can cause and/or prolong yeast infections, so I asked him about my concern. He replied that I should do the 3 day course of the Levaquin first and then afterwards, take the fluconazole pill. He said he prescribed one refill of the fluconazole just in case I still needed it.

So, I left my appointment, filled the prescription, and bought some Vagisil anti-itch wipes & cream. I took the first Levaquin pill on Wednesday & found that the wipes were all the relief I needed, so I didn't even open the cream yet. The next day, however, I got my period. I had also read that periods can 'self-cure' yeast infections so I was actually a little excited, haha. So, I continued with the daily Levaquin dose, but didn't continue to use the wipes since the itching/burning was pretty much alleviated by my period.

That brings me up to date...I finished my Levaquin 3 day course yesterday and I'm assuming that today is the day for me to go ahead and take the fluconazole. My question is this...if I took my last dose of the antibiotic Levaquin yesterday around 7:30pm, how long should I wait today before I take the fluconazole? I just want to aviod any interactions that might counter the effect of the fluconazole. Oh, and thanks in advance! (Also, if this entry needs a cut due to length, just let me know & I'll do it!)

There are reasons you don't get out of bed

  • Nov. 28th, 2009 at 12:03 PM
Today is sort of one of those reasons.

Came into work and had to scan the same document 10 times to get it to size right (As an aside, it was a mammogram, so the increased size of the scan totally counts as augmentation). There have now been several documents I've had to do this with, and it pisses me off. I keep having to turn off both the scanner and digiChart because they keep freezing. Fortunately this seems to have abated in the last couple of hours, so it's not taking me a half hour per chart. I'm currently eating lunch, which means the day is 1/2 over, so that's a yay!

I'm contemplating going to Target after work to get the very last thing on my Christmas list. it's possible I'll have to actually get them online, but Target's the last place I have to try, so I'll check there first. Oooh. Maybe the dollar store. Hmmm. Maybe I'll hit there as well.

Gabe/William and Gabe/Mikey are hanging out in my head and I'm trying to construct stories for them, but they seem to be reluctant to do anything. I do have something I'm scribbling - one of the requests from my last ficlet offer - and I'm kind of happy with it. Mind you, it's just two post-it notes of words, but that's something, right?

Okay, back to the grind. Hope you're all having a wonderful weekend! I have to keep reminding myself it's Saturday, which is silly - because Saturday's my normal workday, but I keep thinking it's Friday, since I didn't work yesterday. Wacky.

[G/Unk] Another French Request

  • Nov. 28th, 2009 at 2:39 AM
I already answered this French request, but she re-greened.

The user wanted to know how to communicate with a specific user. I gave her the FAQ 270 and added more information in my answer to make it more clear (you can see exactly what I wrote in my IC in English) because the FAQ is not translated in French.

My problem is that the user keep saying that she does not know how to contact that specific user. I'm not sure how my answer could be more clear than what I wrote. She apparently does not have a journal, so I guess I could be more specific by telling her that she has to select the "Anonymous option" to be able to leave a comment on an entry. (I verified the journal in question and the user does allow Anonymous comments) Does anyone have another suggestion ? I could translate the FAQ 270 in French, but there is no instructions, it is more general information.

This is my first post, so be gentle! As soon as I saw this little gem, I KNEW I had to post it here! And, it made it home with me! Check out more below the cut ...

My dad is old, getting a little senile. I want to get him help somehow, but he's an angry, stubborn old goat. He refuses to see a doctor about his deteriorating hearing (he can't hear anything I say anymore, my mum has to yell it to him), and now I'm afraid his mind is slipping. What can I do?

Examples of his strangeness. )

Is it bad if I'm having trouble focusing my eyes? Every now and then half the page seems to wash away into a blind spot. I am still sick with the flu but this is new to me. Any suggestions for relief?
I've been thinking lately about going to Planned Parenthood to see if I could get free birth control pills. Last time I went they said that was the only option they gave out for free and considering I haven't had a job since January I was hoping it was still true. Anyways my main reason for this is more about fighting the acne I have since nothing else has worked.

I just wanted to know one thing. Now in the past I've never had a very good record of remembering pills. My boyfriend is behind me all the way on this and he's promising that he'll help me actually remember to take them everyday and at the same time. I just want to know one thing. If I do happen to forget a pill one day would that end up messing up the acne fighting help? For a few months we'll still be using condoms so I won't have to worry about being pregnant. I just want to know the acne fighting pluses and pit falls about the pill.

Cars burned, windows broken at trade protest
Geneva police say 'situation is calmer' after rioting at anti-WTO march

GENEVA - Anti-capitalism protesters smashed the windows of banks, shops and cafes in central Geneva and set cars on fire on Saturday during a demonstration against the World Trade Organization.

Some demonstrators were breaking the windows of every building they passed and setting off fireworks in the main shopping street.

Police in riot gear headed off groups of violent protesters.

At least three cars were set on fire near the city bus station. A pall of smoke hung over the city center and tear gas drifted through the streets.

The violent protesters were a minority in an otherwise good-natured crowd of about 2,000 people, accompanied by a dozen tractors and a marching band, who were demonstrating against a three-day WTO conference that starts Monday.

I hate how the media doesn't say a word about the protests until a few people get violent. Also, wtf at the random inclusion of that bit about the South Koreans.
