Well, not specifically an ode. And not specifically to office supplies. Rather, I give you my grand and t00by love of post-its!
I love post-its, and my drawers at my desk are full of them. Regular post-its of plain yellow. Bright, neon post-its of pink, purple, green and teal. Small post-its of pastel colors, and a few hot pink, orange, and bright-yellow ones. Large, lined post-its for making lists. More plastic post-its for use as notebook dividers. Post-it flags for marking book pages. Larger novelty post-its with nuns on them. My latest addition to my post-it collection: bright arrows with the words, "sign here" printed on them.
At any one moment, I have 3-4 packs of post-its laying around my work space. One set by the computer, one set to the right of me at my desk, one set buried under the papers strewn across my desk. My Portus notebook is full of them, as are all of my student folders. If you turn over my purse, there are several rumpled, depleted post-it stacks. My post-it collection is a huge source of amusement for my students, as I'm always tossing them a pad of post-its to make themselves notes. At the end of my workday, there is always a small stack of used post-its on the edge, with notes like, "missing chapter 11", "call Mrs. B re tests", "next meeting Nov 26," "Gov't contract!".
One of my students has been reading Twilight and is absolutely enthralled with the books. She's not much of a reader either, and she said that all of the women in her family, from her 12-year-old sister to her aunt have read them and really enjoyed them. I've heard such mixed reviews of the books, and the story as she described them seems to mirror some aspects of Buffy. Are these books worth a read? Convince me!

1. Spending the afternoon with
bluejeanbaby01 working on Portus stuff and just hanging out. It was nice to see you, A!
2. M's smile. She just had her braces off and is very proud of how her teeth look.
3. K practicing her cello. She's really starting to develop a nice tone, and the practice is showing off.
4. Me slogging my way through a particularly nasty set of downward punches in karate class. By the 10th punch, my thighs were burning, and I pressed on to do another 20.
5. Being the 1st one to cave in class tonight to demonstrate Kicho Hyuang Il Bo backwards, only after a little pressure. I did as well as everyone else who tried, and stepped the wrong direction after the 4th move. Only the 3rd dan was able to complete it.
6. Finding a shot bottle of bourbon in the liquor store next to the karate studio to make the sauce for the bread pudding - there's no way I would ever drink through a full-sized bottle.
7. Dinner at In N Out, mmmmmm.
8. Knowing that I could stay up as long as I want tonight, because my alarm will not be going off in the morning.
9. Walking down my upstairs hallway, surrounded by floor-to-ceiling books on each side of me.
10. Putting my jammies on. Ahhh.
